The Department of Education and Training in the Northern Territory is dedicated to enhancing educational outcomes for all children by implementing a structured approach to curriculum development and evaluation. Their Curriculum, Assessment, Reporting and Certification policy provides guidance for principals and educators in NT Government schools to comply with established curriculum and assessment standards, fostering consistency and transparency across educational practices from early childhood to Year 12.

In 2024, the Northern Territory (NT) Government committed that all children in Years 1 to 6 in the NT would have the opportunity to learn how to swim to reduce their risk of drowning and injury at no cost to families.
