In 2024, the Northern Territory (NT) Government committed that all children in Years 1 to 6 in the NT would have the opportunity to learn how to swim to reduce their risk of drowning and injury at no cost to families.

The Swimming and water safety in schools Years 1 to 6 policy documents have been developed to outline for schools how this initiative will be implemented.
