Increasing school autonomy

Increasing school autonomy is a key element of the Department of Education and Training's strategic plan and a priority for the Australian and Northern Territory governments.

Increasing school autonomy aims to reduce bureaucracy by devolving decision-making to schools that are closer to the point of service delivery.

There are two key initiatives to increase school autonomy in the Territory:

• school funding
• independent public schools.
