Flexible education providers

The department is committed to offering and facilitating the provision of high-quality flexible education programs that ensure the needs of all students are met.

Flexible education refers to education programs that are delivered differently or modified from the way they are ordinarily provided, and it can occur both in school and in other settings.

The Quality Standards Framework for Flexible Education Programs provides a responsive framework, which allows priority groups of young people to re-engage, re-socialise, and re-educate.

The framework outlines:

  • Flexible learning options in mainstream schools: these programs provide different learning options for priority students than is generally provided to other students in the same school.
  • Flexible learning in alternative education settings: these are standalone schools specifically designed to cater for priority students.
  • Flexible (non-school) programs: these are non-school programs that young people attend as an alternative to school for all or part of the year.
  • Complementary programs: these programs support the engagement of priority young people in education, and they may include some curriculum delivery and may take place in-class. They complement rather than replace the student’s enrolment and attendance at a school or alternative setting.

The Flexible Education Provider Directory lists a combination of school-based and externally funded flexible education programs. Please note that the department is not responsible for delivering all these programs. The directory is provided to parents or caregivers to better understand the flexible education programs offered by both the department and externally funded providers.

The department’s approach to flexible education is practical and adaptable to meet the unique needs of each student. The directory and contact list will be updated annually to ensure the most-up-to-date information is available.
