The Northern Territory Government has confirmed the site for a new Secondary Special Education School in Palmerston, marking a major step forward in inclusive education for students with disability.

The purpose-built facility will accommodate up to 200 students and will be located adjacent to the Rosebery Year 7–12 comprehensive high school (currently Palmerston College – Rosebery 7-9 campus), promoting shared learning and inclusive opportunities. The school will alleviate the increasing demand on existing special education services, including the current Special Education Centre at Palmerston College and Henbury School in Darwin, and support students transitioning from special education in Palmerston primary schools.

The design will prioritise safety, dignity, and wellbeing, guided by an Expert Design Advisory Group comprising experienced school leaders and experts from the Department of Education and Training’s Inclusion and Engagement Services team.

Community consultation on the design process will begin in the coming months, with the school scheduled to open in Term 1, 2029. This initiative aligns with broader secondary education reforms in Palmerston and expands options for students with additional needs.
