Reforming secondary education to meet NT students' needs

Published

Secondary education in the Northern Territory (NT) is being reformed to support students to complete school and transition into post-school pathways and careers here in the Territory.

The NT Government is committed to delivering all recommendations from the Secondary Review.

The reforms will set out local pathways to Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) completion, and achievement of core literacy and numeracy skills for all students across the NT.

To achieve this, reforms will be delivered across 4 phases:

  • Phase 1: Designing pathways to NTCET completion across the NT
    Term 4 2024 – Term 1 2025
  • Phase 2: Designing regional implementation plans and enablers
    Term 1 – Term 2 2025
  • Phase 3: School planning and system preparation
    Term 3 – Term 4 2025
  • Phase 4: Commence transition to new delivery model for secondary provision
    From 2026

Learn more about the work occurring in each phase on the Secondary Reform Program page.
