Fees and Payment

Initial Fees

All applications for registration must be accompanied by the prescribed fee which is comprised of the registration fee for the applicant’s first registration year plus the application processing fee (if applicable).

Graduates from Charles Darwin University (CDU) are only required to pay the registration fee, no fee is charged for lodging and processing their application for registration.

Applicants for registration may pay up to three years in advance.

The prescribed fee must be paid before an application is processed. The fee may be tax deductible depending on your circumstances. Please ask your Tax Agent or the Australian Taxation Office.

If the Board refuses your application for registration, the Board will refund the registration fee that accompanied the application (but not the fee for lodging and processing the application).

Once registered, all fees are non-refundable.

The fee supports the work undertaken by the Board to administer the provisions of the Teacher Registration (Northern Territory) Act and to promote the teaching profession and professional standards for teachers.

Annual Fee

Toward the end of the year that your annual registration fee (financial expiry date) is due, the TRB office will email you a ‘Payment of Annual Registration Fee’ reminder. You must then pay your annual fee (financial expiry date) by 31 December if you wish to teach in the NT or remain registered in the following year. Payments are made via the TRB online services: https://trbaccount.ntschools.net/Login.aspx

Teachers are reminded that it is an offence to teach in a school in the Northern Territory without current registration. Penalties may apply.

Failure to pay your annual fee will result in the expiry of your NT registration. Teachers who are on extended leave when payment falls due, for example Maternity or Long Service, are reminded to update their contact details to ensure they receive payment reminder emails.

Should your registration expire due to non-payment of the annual fee, you may be required to reapply for registration by submitting a complete new application. Applications for registration can take up to six weeks to process.

Please note that all fees are subject to increase annually as of 1st July in line with the CPI as set by the Territory Revenue Office in accordance with the Revenue Unit Act 2009
