Workload reduction action plan (WRAP)

The Workload reduction action plan (WRAP) has been developed in consultation with the Australian Education Union (AEU), Northern Territory Principals’ Association and Professional Teachers’ Association NT to assist in reducing administrative workload, streamline process, and explore new initiatives to support teachers to maximise their focus on teaching and learning.

The action plan has 18 actions under five key focus areas:

  • Efficient administrative processes and teacher workforce support.
  • Communication clarity, purpose and protocols.
  • Technology accessibility to improve efficiency.
  • Streamlined curriculum resources and collaborative processes.
  • Continuous improvement through assessment of workload impact.

The goal of the action plan is to:

  • Improve the efficiency of administrative processes to support teachers to maximise their focus on student learning.
  • Enhance access to professional learning and continuing to streamline processes to support delivery of education, including meeting the needs required for students with disabilities.
  • Establish clear communication protocols to support principals and teachers by providing a better understanding of the purpose and impact of required tasks.
  • Enable easier access to educational resources and equipping schools with integrated, user-friendly technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Provide access to ready to use curriculum resources and lesson plans which can provide efficiencies for teacher planning.
  • Foster communities of practice and collaborative practices to address shared challenges and maximise the impact of expertise across schools, regions, and system.
  • Introduce new initiatives to improve efficiency, incorporating an assessment of workload impact.
