Access education records
The department publishes a range of information on its website.
To get student records, go to the NT Government website.
If information is not available, you can request access under freedom of information (FoI).
What you can request
Under an FoI, you can request information about:
- yourself
- government business
- NT government schools
- someone else, usually through a law firm or an authorised organisation.
You can also make a request to correct personal information held by the department.

Requests from other organisations
In line with information sharing guidelines, requests can be received from other organisations dealing with:
- the welfare of a child
- youth justice services
- a court.
Submit your request by email. You must use an authorised email address including an NTG agency or organisation signature block.
Your email should include the following:
- child’s full name, including any other names they may be known by
- date of birth
- information that is being requested - for example, incident reports, education adjustment plans or student record files
- reasons why the request has been submitted - for example, confirmation that the child is currently enrolled and attending school.
Requests by section notices, warrants or subpoenas
The department actions legal requests for information received in the form of a section notice, warrant or a subpoena for production of documents.
