Tennant Creek High School turns 40
Tennant Creek High School came together on Friday 23 October 2026, to celebrate 40 years of learning, leadership and community - recognising 4 decades as the heart of education in the Barkly region.
Since opening its doors, the school has grown from a regional secondary school into a vibrant learning community that serves students from Tennant Creek and remote communities.
Over the past 40 years, the school has adapted to changing educational needs while remaining committed to providing quality learning opportunities for young people in one of the Territory's most diverse regions. With many of their students completing school and pursuing career opportunities that give back to the Barkly region.
The celebrations brought together past and present students, staff and community members to share memories, reconnect with old friends and celebrate the school's achievements. Together they enjoyed a delicious lunch and cake, and an unveiling of a plaque to mark the special occasion.
Principal of Tennant Creek High School, Petrina Hayward is proud to lead the school through this milestone birthday.
'The anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the school's proud legacy while looking forward to the future.'
'For 40 years, Tennant Creek High School has played a vital role in educating and empowering young people across the Barkly region. This milestone belongs to every student, teacher, support staff member, parent and community partner who has been part of our journey.'
Congratulations to the whole Tennant Creek High School team and community on this significant achievement! We thank them for their valuable impact on education in the NT.
