RATE program growing local leadership

Published

A group of 16 Aboriginal educator employees from across the Northern Territory recently took part in a First Nations Introduction to University workshop at Charles Darwin University.

They are part of the Department of Education and Training’s Remote Aboriginal Teacher Education (RATE) program, supporting Aboriginal team teachers in remote schools to build qualifications and progress their careers.

With 436 participants across 77 remote education settings, RATE is strengthening culturally responsive classrooms and increasing the number of Aboriginal teachers across the NT.

Aboriginal educators bring deep cultural knowledge, language and community connection into learning every day. Programs like RATE ensure that leadership continues to grow within communities.

This is teaching in the Territory! Purpose‑led. Community‑connected. Impact that lasts.
