Celebrating 70 years of education at Alekarenge School
Alekarenge School proudly celebrated 70 years of education on Wednesday 16 September 2026, marking a significant milestone in the school and community’s rich history and culture.
Over the past 70 years, the school has experienced many changes, overcome challenges and celebrated countless achievements, all while remaining at the heart of its community.
The anniversary provided a wonderful opportunity for past and present students, staff, families, Elders and community members to reflect on the school's journey and celebrate its enduring legacy.
Several special guests attended, including the Acting Deputy Chief Executive Early Years and School Services, Paul van Holsteyn and Senior Director Barkly, Jess Robinson who were grateful to be able to reflect on the significant impact Alekarange School has had on the region.
As part of the celebrations, the school launched a commemorative book documenting its 70-year history.
The publication captures treasured memories and stories from current staff, former teachers and former principals, preserving the school's unique story for future generations.
Students and families enjoyed a range of cultural and community activities throughout the day, including creating a handprint mural, followed by a delicious lunch prepared by staff and students.
The community farm was also proudly showcased, with chutney made from produce grown on the farm available for visitors to purchase.
