PECAN +CTF 2025 is coming

PECAN+ is a national Cyber Security Capture the Flag (CTF) competition. If you are in years 9 to 12 and interested in cyber security, then this event is for you.

PECAN+ CTF 2025 is an in-person Capture the Flag cyber security competition.

The competition was founded and led by Edith Cowan University, in collaboration with Universities, TAFEs and the Australian cyber security ecosystem.

Designed for high school students in Years 9 to 12, you will compete nationally to solve challenges in a range of topic areas including:

  • Cryptography
  • digital forensics
  • OSINT
  • reverse engineering
  • steganography and
  • web exploitation.

Put your ethical hacking skills to the test and learn cyber security skills in a fun, practical way!

About the event

National prizes up for grabs for:

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams in each skill division
  • Top-scoring all female team
  • Top-scoring indigenous competitor(s).

Compete in teams of up to 4 students. If you’re registering as an individual, you’ll be placed in a team on the day.

The event is free to enter.

Event locations

This in-person event and is currently only being hosted in Darwin.

If you go to school in Alice Springs register an Expression of Interest (EOI) and spread the word TODAY!

We are aiming to host this event in Alice Springs if we receive enough interest to do so.

Key dates and registration

Registrations and Alice Springs EOI submissions will open end of June.

  • Training day is Saturday 23 August 2025.
  • Competition day is Sunday 24 August 2025.

Both days will kick off from 9.00am and finish at 4.30pm.
