From Botswana to Ti Tree

Stirling School has welcomed a new teacher with a love of adventure and a passion for learning.

Sharon Chidzenga recently relocated from Botswana with her husband Kelvin and their 2 children, Tatenda (8) and Tanyaradzwa (12), to take up a teaching role at the small remote school. With just 10 students, Stirling School is a big change from the city Sharon came from, but one she’s embraced wholeheartedly.

“Life is about exploring,” Sharon said. “It’s all about throwing a stone in the bush and seeing what comes out.”

Kelvin is working in school grounds maintenance and has already made it his mission to eliminate any traces of buffel grass from the school.

Originally from Malawi and raised in Zimbabwe, Kelvin is a qualified diesel mechanic and a self-described jack of all trades.

“It is fantastic out here. Besides the flies, everything is just great!” he said.

The family are settling into life in the Central Desert – and they don’t feel Ti Tree is too far from anything. “It’s quiet and peaceful, and we can easily go to Alice Springs for the weekend,” Sharon said.

Welcome to the Territory, Sharon and family!
