Darwin High School graduate achieves academic milestone
Darwin High School’s 2024 graduate, Monishi Tripura, has become the Territory’s first recipient of the prestigious Hansen Scholarship at the University of Melbourne.
The scholarship, awarded to 23 outstanding students from across the nation, provides full tuition, accommodation and financial support for high-achieving students who have faced barriers to higher education.
Monishi and his family moved from Bangladesh to Darwin when he was just 10 years old. When they arrived, Monishi struggled to understand English so much that he failed the subject in primary school. Demonstrating perseverance and commitment, Monishi worked hard to learn and improve every day.
Monishi’s achievements extend beyond academics, including representing the NT at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, attending the International Science School in Sydney and winning the NT Young Historian Award.
Now in Melbourne, Monishi has begun his studies in a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Studies, pursuing his interests in finance, economics and mathematics.
Monishi’s story is not only inspiring but also proof that through hard work and determination, anything is possible.
Congratulations to Monishi. We are incredibly proud of him and wish him all the best with his new chapter.
