Celebrating department achievements at the 2025 Chief Ministers Awards
We are proud to share the Swimming and Water Safety in Schools initiative, Katherine School of the Air KSA Connect program and Nhulunbuy High School's Don McKinnon were recognised at the 2025 Chief Ministers Awards for Excellence in the Public Sector!
The awards are a true celebration of the passion, innovation and dedication that drives the departments work across the Territory.
The Swimming and Water Safety in Schools initiative won the Restoring the Territory Lifestyle Award category. This initiative ensures all Northern Territory students from Years 1 to 6 have access to free swimming lessons to gain essential and lifesaving water safety skills, regardless of geographic isolation. Through strong partnerships with NT organisations, this initiative is building safer, healthier communities, one stroke at a time!
The Katherine School of the Air KSA Connect program received a Highly Commended Award in the Inspiring Innovation category. This flexible learning model, launched as a trial in Term 1, has already made a profound impact on some of our most vulnerable students. Through a hybrid approach combining face-to-face and online learning, KSA Connect offers a safe, supportive and engaging environment for young people facing complex challenges.
Nhulunbuy High School's Don Mckinnon was awarded the 2025 Chief Minister’s Medal for his extraordinary 30-year contribution at the East Arnhem school. Don’s dedication to teaching technology has inspired generations of students, helping many develop skills and confidence to take on work experience opportunities in construction and mining. His legacy continues to shape the future of education in the region, leading as an inspiring role model for his community.
Congratulations to all!
