Bulman School’s music teacher recognised at prestigious national awards
Congratulations to our incredible music teacher Nathaniel Miller from Bulman School who was named the winner of the 2024 ARIA Music Teacher Award.
Nathaniel developed and has led Bulman School’s music program, guided by local Elders and The Song Room, for the past 2 years, teaching students to play different instruments alongside song writing and performance in English, and singing in the local endangered languages, Dalabon and Rembarrnga.
He has helped improve school attendance and created a safe and inclusive learning environment where students are able to express themselves, reconnect with their culture, and find pride in their heritage through music.
Song has become a powerful tool in Bulman, showcasing the voice of the community and helping students to develop a deeper, more positive connection to school.
The strong collaboration between the school and community has allowed Nathaniel and his students to create educational resources and music videos, to help preserve the local languages and cultures for future generations.
Nathaniel’s inspirational work blending music, culture and education will have a lasting impact on Bulman.
We are so proud of Nathaniel and Bulman School and the bright future ahead.
