ACEL NT Awards honours educational leaders and teachers

At the 2023 Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) NT Awards, a number of teachers and staff members were honoured for their significant contributions to teaching and learning in Territory schools.

This includes:

  • Director Community Engagement and Local Decision Making Joe Brown - Aboriginal Educator Leadership Award
  • Nightcliff Primary School Teacher Alison Mackie and Girraween Primary School Teacher Kirsty McGuinness - Early Career Teacher Leadership Award
  • Katherine High School Principal Nick Lovering and A/Deputy Chief Executive Regional Services Aderyn Chatterton - Fellowship Award
  • Driver Primary School Teacher Leah Jones and Girraween Primary School Teacher Charlie Malady-Wright - Inspiring Educator Award
  • Gunbalanya Community School Principal Sue Trimble and Youth Voice and Leadership Advisor Caitlin Donnelly - Leadership Award.

Nominations came from peers, colleagues, and educational communities, with judging panels assessing leadership, impact on education, and achievements for our schools and young people.

From influencing teaching to demonstrating leadership in implementing a significant educational initiative, as well as drawing on cultural knowledge and community connections to create experiences that build respect for Aboriginal history and culture.

The awards not only showcased dedicated leaders, but also highlighted the crucial role that educators play in enhancing student success, with their exemplary teaching skills, attitude and relationships with students and colleagues within and beyond the classroom.
