Six Aboriginal educators from Territory schools have recently completed their education qualifications through the Remote Aboriginal Teacher Education (RATE) program.

Congratulations on the completion of their studies to:

  • JoAnne Bayalawuy Thorne (Shepherdson College) - Diploma of Education Studies, and progressing to the second year of a Bachelor of Education Primary
  • Kellyann Daly, Sharon Daly, Nadine Day and Chrysilla Miller (Woolianna School) - Undergraduate Certificate Remote Educators, and progressing to a Diploma of Education Studies
  • Joy Hampton (Tennant Creek Primary School) - Undergraduate Certificate Remote Educators, and progressing to a Diploma of Education Studies
  • Sylvette Maralwuy (Milingimbi School) - Certificate III Early Childhood Education and Care, and progressing to a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

These Aboriginal educators have an ongoing commitment to their communities and are highly-valued leaders because of their deep understanding of local education contexts.

They are essential in achieving the departments’ key priorities of building an expert education workforce and improving cultural responsiveness.

A range of entry and exit points, as well as opportunities to celebrate every step towards achieving full teaching qualifications, are built into the RATE pathway.
