About the NT Training Awards
The NT Training Awards (NTTA) are the Department of Education and Training's annual premier event recognising training excellence and achievements by NT businesses, training organisations, apprentices, trainees, trainers and students.
The awards are an official recognition of excellence and achievements in gaining the highest standards of knowledge and skills, in contributing to high standards of training and for personal achievement in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. There are seven (7) individual and five (5) business awards, 12 in total.
The awards offer finalists the chance to gain personal satisfaction and access opportunities in their industry and provide the opportunity to be part of an elite group of ambassadors who represent the Territory’s best in vocational education and training.
Winners and runners-up of individual categories receive a share in cash prizes. Eligible individual and business categories have the opportunity to represent the Territory at the Australia Training Awards.

Cost for applying
There is no application fee for any award. The only costs involved are related to time and effort required to complete the nomination and address the assessment criteria, and taking the time to attend activities and events.
Reasonable expenses are covered for finalists. Please contact the team if you have questions regarding what the reasonable expenses include.
Panel of judges
Panels consist of training specialists, VET practitioners, industry members, NT and Australian government representatives, previous award winners and sponsor representatives. People with appropriate experience and expertise are selected for every category.
The decisions of the judging panels are final.
Criteria to be a winner
Judges are looking for Ambassadors of the VET sector who are representatives that can inspire others with their journeys and encourage others to consider the VET path.
Judges will shortlist all nominations to 3 finalists in each category, finding a quality group of finalists who can demonstrate their achievements, share their stories about training and step into the role of encouraging others to take up the challenge of training.
To determine winners, judgements will also be made on future potential as ambassadors for the Territory and at the national level, at the Australian Training Awards, to represent the success that is possible through the VET sector in the NT.
Feedback on your application
Feedback will be for finalists only and not nominees who were not shortlisted as finalists.
Advertise your achievement
Winners and finalists in the business categories are encouraged to promote themselves as a 'Winner/Runner-up/Finalist NT [category name] of the Year' in their print and electronic publications until August of the following year.
The NTTA team will provide individual and business finalists email signatures for each of these stages through the program.
Nomination information
Individuals and businesses can nominate themselves, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. Nominations are open to VET providers, employers, industry, and the wider community. Whether nominating yourself or someone else, ensure they meet the criteria and are willing to participate.
Eligibility will be checked throughout the nomination open period and the team may contact you requesting more information to be provided for your nomination to be considered.
Applicants can download blank versions of the nomination forms via the portal allowing you to complete the application offline before submitting. We highly recommend that you save a version of your entry offline in the rare situation the system doesn’t save your information.
Please note: The portal is set up to receive nominations from the applicant themselves. If you wish to nominate an individual or business, we encourage you to download the nomination form, sit with the nominee to support their application writing, then have them submit the nomination content.
It is imperative the nominee understand the expectations for dates they must commit to for the program, including:
- Ambassadors Weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Judging Day and Finalists and Sponsors Function (Monday proceeding Ambassadors Weekend)
- NTTA Gala Awards (Friday or Saturday night).
Further expectations is for winners to attend the Australian Training Awards Ambassadors week which, including travel, will be a full week commitment from a Monday to Saturday.
The use of AI systems
AI systems can be helpful in these nomination situations, however, we recommend you use it as a tool and not to answer questions completely. You must always read the details any AI system generates to ensure it is in line with your answers. Discretion is with the NTTA team and judges for entries to not be considered if it is apparent care has not been taken to complete the answers yourself, but rather completely using an AI system.
