About the NT Training Awards

The NT Training Awards (NTTA) are the Department of Education and Training's annual premier event recognising training excellence and achievements by NT

  • businesses
  • training organisations
  • apprentices
  • trainees
  • trainers and
  • students.

The awards are an official recognition of excellence and achievements in gaining the highest standards of knowledge and skills, in contributing to high standards of training and for personal achievement in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. There are seven (7) individual and five (5) business awards, 12 in total.

The awards offer finalists the chance to gain personal satisfaction and access opportunities in their industry and provide the opportunity to be part of an elite group of ambassadors who represent the Territory’s best in vocational education and training.

Winners and runners-up of individual categories receive a share in cash prizes. Eligible individual and business categories have the opportunity to represent the Territory at the Australia Training Awards.

There are 12 categories in the NTTA including 7 individual categories and 5 business categories.

Prizes are good, but nothing beats the fact that you can call yourself, and be recognised as, one of the best apprentices, trainees, vocational students, VET teacher/trainers, employers or registered training organisations in the Territory.

Winners of all NTTA awards will receive a framed certificate and a trophy.

The runner-up of all NTTA awards will receive a framed certificate.

Finalists of all NTTA categories will receive a finalist certificate.

Individual category winners will all receive $3,500 each with the exception to the VET in Schools Student of the Year winner who will receive $2,500.

Individual category runners-up will all receive $1,500.

Business categories will no longer be eligible for prize money in line with the Australian Training Awards.

There is no application fee for any award. The only costs involved are related to time and effort required to complete the nomination and address the assessment criteria, and taking the time to attend activities and events.

Panels consist of training specialists, VET practitioners, industry members, NT and Australian government representatives, previous award winners and sponsor representatives. People with appropriate experience and expertise are selected for every category. The judging panel is managed by an external contractor to the NTTA team.

The decisions of the judging panels are final.

Judges are looking for Ambassadors of the VET sector who are representatives that can inspire others with their journeys and encourage others to consider the VET path.

Judges will shortlist all nominations to 3 finalists in each category, finding a quality group of finalists who can demonstrate their achievements, share their stories about training and step into the role of encouraging others to take up the challenge of training.

To determine winners judgements will also be made on future potential as ambassadors for the Territory and at the national level, at the Australian Training Awards, to represent the success that is possible through the VET sector in the NT.

Feedback for all finalists will be made available to the finalists at the complete of the NTTA program – after the gala awards dinner. Feedback will only be for finalist and not available to nominees who were not shortlisted as finalists.

Winners and finalists in the business categories are encouraged to promote themselves as a 'Winner/Runner-up/Finalist NT [category name] of the Year' in their print and electronic publications until August of the following year.

The NTTA team will provide individual and business finalists email signatures for each of these stages through the program.
