Curriculum, assessment, reporting and certification
The Northern Territory Department of Education has an expert advisory relationship with the Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS). NTBOS is established by legislation to advise the Minister and the department on curriculum policy and the assessment, reporting and certification of learners’ achievement from early childhood education through to the senior secondary years.
The board’s new Curriculum, assessment, reporting and certification policy: early childhood to Year 12, sets out the standards and processes required to ensure that the NT education system promotes excellence and equity while delivering world-class curriculum and assessment. The policy can also be accessed on the NTBOS policies and guidelines webpage.
The NTBOS policy is informing the drafting of the department’s own Curriculum, assessment, reporting and certification policy: early childhood to Year 12, along with supporting guidelines and procedures.

The department’s policy will articulate the principles and practices that support the delivery of quality teaching and learning programs in educational settings. The policy will be designed as an overarching policy, with topic-specific guidelines and procedures to support educators and department staff understand the actions required to be compliant with legislation, policy and the department’s strategic direction. This will ensure consistency and clarity of practice in the four areas of curriculum, assessment, reporting and certification in all Northern Territory government schools. The department’s policy package will be published in early 2022.
