A recent careers expo at Maningrida Community College was attended by more than 60 students from years 3 to 12.

The Northern Lands Council forum explored 13 job pathways ranging from retail, maritime, the Australian Army, commercial cookery, hospitality, education and the Arts.

VET Programs Remote manager Jess Wilmot said the inaugural event helped school leavers considering life after school.

“The presenting organisations included Territory Families, Babbarra Womens Centre, Mala’la Health Clinic, NORFORCE, Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation, and the West Arnhem Regional Council,” she said.

“They definitely broadened students’ thinking about career pathways they would like to pursue.

“Students mainly commented on the surprising number of jobs in the community.”

Ms Wilmot said students are focusing on the college taught VET certificates in Automotive Preparation, Construction, Conservation and Land Management, and Maritime Operations.
