The first day of the 2020 school year was extra special this year with the official opening of the Northern Territory’s newest school.

Zuccoli Primary School officially welcomed its first cohort of students at a whole school assembly this morning, before students hit the classrooms to check out their new learning areas.

The brand new school with state of the art facilities is light, bright and spacious with flexible learning spaces and interconnecting classrooms.

Principal of Zuccoli Primary Carolyn Edwards said the first day was really exciting with more than 120 Preschool to Year 4 students welcomed to the school.

"The kids were excited, there were a few tears. Parents were excited and there were a few tears too," she said.

"It's the start of a new day and the start of a new school year so it’s only going to go onwards and upwards from here."

Approximately 45,000 students have commenced school for 2020.
