Murray Downs has a Magic Moment

Murray Downs School has collected a Magic Moment award, one of five schools to win the coveted 2019 VAMPIES prize.

The VAMPIES are the annual awards conferred by VAMPtv, an NT Music School avenue for multimedia education operating since 2011.

The honours acknowledge the best produced song and video clips submitted by regional and remote schools.

The triumphant Murray Downs School song centred on the school’s former values: Strong, Smart, Deadly, Caring & Brave, and reflected on the Alyawarra people and the school’s language and culture.

Principal Janet Purje said the clip was produced in four days by 10 students and two music architects from Melbourne’s MusoMagic.

“The years 1 to 7 students worked with MusoMagic to write the lyrics, record vocals, and create the video clip at Haasts Bluff,” she said.

“The song’s theme was decided by the students and the previous principal, Jane Brandon.

“The need for the school to share its vision and values was highlighted in a 2017 review. The clip became a late 2018 promotion of the mission and standards decided upon earlier that year.”

The school has yet to decide how to use the $500 prize money.
