Distance educator to collect coveted citation
Marcia Harvey is set to receive the Presidential Citation for Outstanding Service to the Australasian Association of Distance Education Schools, an award acknowledging excellent contributions to the association.
Prior to her appointment as the department’s director of school resourcing, Marcia was a distance educator for 16 years.
She has been assistant principal of the Northern Territory Open Education Centre and principal of the NT School of Distance Education.
A Northern Territory delegate of the national AADES executive for eight years, Marcia believes her greatest achievement during her work in distance education was overseeing the five-year transformation of the NTOEC to the NTSDE, beginning in 2013.
“My aspiration for distance education in the Territory is that it continues to provide successful learning opportunities for students who are unable to access their education through conventional means,” she said.
“The course options and learning opportunities provided by the NTSDE markedly reduce any learning obstacles imposed by distance, and the school is always ambitious to build on the quality of its services, its professionalism, inclusivity and innovation.”
Marcia Harvey will receive her award at the AADES National Conference dinner in Hobart on 2 May.
