Danielle delivers high-quality training in agriculture
Alice Springs-based Danielle Brown works closely with secondary students pursuing careers in agricultural industries.
The Quality Teaching and Learning officer provides classroom instruction and practical experience to Centralian Senior College and Yirara College students undertaking Certificate I in AgriFood Operations, Certificate II in Rural Operations, and Certificate III in Agriculture.
Darwin-born Danielle, who began working for the Department of Education in early 2016, said the most enjoyable aspect of her work is “seeing the students grow during their courses”.
“It’s fantastic to give students opportunities to learn new skills, and see them have fun using them in hands-on situations,” she said.
“I would love to continue growing our agriculture program in the Territory, giving students access to diverse, exciting, broadly attractive training options.
“I am particularly interested in helping female students get a foothold in industry-related careers. I’m introducing them to different aspects of the industry, and making them aware of the employment pathways available.
“The jobs they are favouring are the station-based positions predominant in Central Australia.”
Danielle is keen to expand her professional skills, and this year she was one of a very select number of women chosen to attend the Women in Agri-tech Symposium in Brisbane.
“There were so many wonderful aspects of the symposium, but the highlight for me was the chance to meet like-minded women who are dedicated to the education of young people set to become the future of our agricultural enterprises.
“I’m always looking to extend my knowledge through personal and professional development. This can be achieved by working with the Department of Primary Industries and Resources in Alice Springs, and other local experts.”
The finalist and regional winner of last year’s VET Trainer of the Year is now helping Certificate I and Certificate II students prepare and show 12 Brahman cattle at the Katherine Show and Royal Darwin Show.
Danielle enjoys camping, 4WD driving, drawing and painting.
