Courtney leads a great team
Alice Springs-raised Courtney Ingham is a highly experienced corporate officer who favours fast-paced work environments, new learning opportunities, and amazing morning teas.
The director of Secretariat is a former correctional services probation and parole staffer who too often saw the profound disadvantages caused by inaccessibility to a quality education.
“I was responsible for the supervision of adult offenders in the community,” she said. “It was a really rewarding and challenging role, and I worked with people from all walks of life to make a difference.
“But the importance of education cannot be overstated, and I’m pleased to work in a place that can make a real difference to peoples’ lives.”
Secretariat is the unit responsible for the delivery of high quality advice to the Minister of Education, the Cabinet Office, other Territory government agencies, the federal government and the department’s executive board.
Courtney believes the most challenging time for Secretariat is coordinating Estimates.
“It’s a time when we get good insights into the work being done in the agency, but we also have to work to very tight deadlines,” she said.
“But I have a remarkable team of four — Parthena Athiropoulos, Emma Travers, Cass Douglas and graduate Craig Maquet — who respond well in a high workload climate, and I feel very privileged to work with them.
“They are extremely knowledgeable, committed and professional people, who support each other and the business units in the department.
“Currently, Secretariat is focusing on the provision of more training opportunities — a big project — and streamlining processes to improve the way we do business.”
On Courtney’s ‘to do list’ are travel, attention to her house, and spending time with her family.
“I love travelling, and I’ve just returned from two weeks’ camping in a New Zealand winter,” she said. “But I still have a lot of the world to see, so travelling in the next few months, or a year, will feature pretty heavily.
“I have just bought a house, so I will be trying to do some handiwork, which should prove interesting. And I want to focus on my family, in Darwin and Alice Springs, and my friends.”
Courtney is very fond of reading a good book, and a big fan of yoga and Hopscotch — her dog — not the children’s game.
