New adventures on Duke’s path
Five Kintore Street students have taken their next step on the ladder of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards.
After a two-year involvement with the program, the Silver Award was conferred on Briony Festing, Patrick Wing and Michael Miller. Harmond Yates and Conor McBean became Bronze Award holders after a year with the program.
The awards, which recognise adolescents and young adults for their completion of a series of self-development exercises, has been active in the Territory for more than 40 years.
The students qualified after undertaking the Adventurous Journey — a component of both awards requiring participants to ‘challenge yourself to journey and explore with your eyes open’.
Among their many activities, the students visited Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre, the Howard Springs Nature Park, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, watched the sunset at Mindil Beach, and enjoyed some quiet reflection at the Adelaide River War Memorial.
