Coffee in East Arnhem Land
A remote café has become an excellent training facility for Gapuwiyak High School students.
The enterprise, open for business each fortnight, is an opportunity for the students to learn hospitality skills, such as greeting customers, taking orders, serving food and handling money.
Principal Clarice O’Leary said the workers are creating café style food — including scones, cupcakes and bliss balls — to accompany hot drinks.
“The students’ confidence grows as they contribute to the operation of the business,” she said. “They are proud of their achievements and look forward to the next time they work there.”
