Soccer aficionado Aarya Pratap shone at the mid-June School Sport NT Championships in Darwin. A Yulara School student, and member of the 12 years and under team, Aarya demonstrated his mastery of the game at the two-day football fixture.

Teaching principal at the near Uluru school, Sonya De Hamer said: “This was an excellent opportunity for a student from Yulara School to showcase his sporting skills in a competitive arena.

“Because of his proficiency as a footballer, Aarya has been selected to be part of the soccer team to represent the Territory at the School Sports Australia National Championships held in Sydney this September.”

The selection criteria included the ability to play different positions, speed and agility, good ball and foot coordination, physical and mental fitness, a robust team ethic, an ability to interpret the game, athletic talent and regular school attendance.

Ms De Hamer added: “Aarya will be an excellent ambassador for the school and the Territory at the upcoming championships. We are proud of his devotion to the sport, and to the values of Yulara School.”

The Yulara Lions Club contributed the $1085 needed for Aarya’s trip.
