Bakewell reaches two decade milestone

Bakewell Independent Public School has celebrated its 20th anniversary. The preschool opened in 1998 with 23 students, and with 168 enrollees, the primary school began operating a year later.

The Palmerston school is the largest primary school in the Northern Territory, accommodating more than 900 students from preschool to Year 6.

Principal Paul Nyhuis said: “The school offers an innovative, positive and caring environment that enhances the academic outcomes, social development and welfare of each student.

“We have an unwavering focus on quality teaching and learning, and readily embrace scholastic and wellbeing initiatives, such as the introduction of Advancement via Individual Determination, the 1:1 iPad Learning Program, our supported playgroup, and the appointment of a full-time school counsellor.

“We have strong links to the wider community, believing optimal learning occurs when the school, home and the community work in partnership. Bakewell Primary School is a centre of excellence dedicated to the development of children as confident and capable global citizens.”

Students, parents and carers are invited to celebratory activities — including an open classroom tour and a Special Assembly — on Friday 31 August. A staff reunion is slated for Saturday 1 September. For more information contact
