Territory designer trounces rivals at clothing competition
A fashion designer and Darwin Middle School student has eclipsed all contenders to score top honours at this year’s Apex Australia Teenage Fashion & Arts Youth Festival.
Maneeza Rahmany (pictured centre) was named Young Designer of the Year at the national final in Western Australia, outshining challengers from all states and territories.
The fashion enthusiast, who qualified for the final after victories at this year’s NTeen Fashion Festival in Darwin, submitted garments in the formal wear and casual wear categories.
The two outfits were subjected to a technical examination — a critical assessment of their construction — and a runway appraisal by four judges from Mandurah Wearable Art.
After teaching herself to sew by watching You Tube videos, Maneeza entered her first NTeen Fashion Festival in 2015, and was a runner-up in the 2016 Territory heat.
