Rainforest, creatures and costumes

Costumed students at Karama Primary School were joined by fish, frogs and crocodiles during Book Week.

Reflecting the rainforest theme of the literacy building Scholastic Book Fair, the students transformed the library into a tropical reading environment.

Librarian Jacqui Bodel said the forest also included a waterfall and trees, spider webs, a tiger, toucans, snakes and passionfruit flowers.

“We hold the fairs twice a year, and the variety of books and novelty items available are always a big hit with the students,” she said.

“And our Book Week costume parade, based on the topic Escape to Everywhere, encouraged students to use their imagination and dress up according to their interpretation of their favourite book character.

The costumes included Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Poison Ivy from Batman, and the Saucepan Man from Folk of the Faraway Tree.
