Kunbarlanja Kunbolk launched
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation visited Gunbalanya School on May 30 to launch Kunbarlanja Kunbolk — described as a colourfully illustrated story of the seasons, animals and landscape in Gunbalanya .
The school’s students wrote and illustrated the book — an ILF Community Literacy Project — under the guidance of acclaimed children’s book author Alison Lester.
Principal Sue Trimble said: “Our students are so proud of all their hard work, and excited about the prospect of sharing this book with other schools through the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.”
Each student received a copy of the book and a shirt from the foundation. The foundation aims to increase literacy and develop a love of reading in children living in remote Aboriginal communities.
