Bees Creek Primary turns 20
Bees Creek Primary School today celebrated its 20th anniversary, and a preschool expansion planned since 2015.
The rural primary school that opened in 1997 with just 155 students, now has a community of 365 students and about 44 staff.
Principal Shona Henderson said upgrades to the preschool have created a new teaching area and extra learning places to “promote student-centred learning using flexible and functional spaces”.
“The open plan allows teachers to use a simultaneous mix of indoor and outdoor play, enables adaptable student and teacher groupings, and improved access to resources,” she said.
“Choices of activities, materials and equipment, are clearly visible and easily accessible, allowing children to find things, set their own goals and construct their own knowledge.”
