Red Room ready for aspiring poets
Durack Primary School student Christopher Edwards was distinguished for The Grasslands – his submission to last year’s Red Room Poetry Object.
In the free poetry writing contest, presented by The Red Room Company , Christopher was awarded Best Student Poem (Primary) – the Territory’s only prize.
Teachers and students in Australia and New Zealand can participate, and Territory schools are encouraged to register now.
The national competition challenges contenders to contribute works about talismans of personal significance.
“I was asked to write a poem about a talisman but had trouble thinking of one, so chose to write about my soft toy Tiger, which has been with me practically all of my life,” Christopher said.
Submissions close on Friday 23 September 2016.
