Prestigious prize collected by dental apprentice
Dimiti Andresen has claimed the School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year Award at this year’s NT Training Awards.
The 17-year-old Centralian Senior College student is being trained as a dental assistant at the Alice Springs-based Flynn Drive Dental Clinic, part of the Department of Health’s Oral Health Services.
The Year 12 collegian began studying the Certificate III in Dental Assisting in 2015, building skills in a range of oral health procedures, including dental radiography, infection control, and equipment preparation and maintenance.
“The clinic provides employment and training during my apprenticeship, which I expect to complete in October this year,” she said.
“I wish to keep working there for a while after my training is finished to gain more knowledge, and because I enjoy the work.
“I also want a formal qualification in a rewarding field to help my prospects of working as a volunteer overseas.”
Recognising her hard work, dedication and willingness to learn, Dimiti’s manager encouraged her to apply for the award. Dimiti was selected from three finalists in her category.
