Double tribute to Indigenous teacher

Kate Axten is the recipient of the NT Government Young Indigenous Educator Award. The honour was conferred on the Centralian Middle School teacher at the 16 April presentation of the NT Young Achiever Awards.

The awards acknowledge and promote the achievements of Territorians up to 29 years old.

One of three nominees for the award, the 26-year-old was considered with Families as First Teachers nominee Anjelica Durrurrnga and assistant teacher Lisa Kunoth.

The Year 7 educator was also named the 2016 Channel Nine Young Achiever of the Year at the gala SKYCITY event.A former graduate teacher at Centralian Middle School, Kate plans to undertake a Masters of Education. She was one of 12 category winners, each of which received a $2000 prize.
