Tristan’s Passion for Education

Tristan Duggie from Mungkarta community, south of Tenant Creek, is one of a team of Student and Family Support Officers working in the Transition Support Unit who are passionate about the power of education.

Tristan said his family were very supportive of his education and he wants to encourage others to complete their secondary education, despite the challenges they will face.

“It was very challenging back them because I was very young,” said Tristan.

He said that a lot of his relatives graduated and taught in Territory schools and that is what inspired him to keep going.

“It was a really great experience to get an education. I learnt a lot.

But the biggest thing for me was being away from country and Elders because that is part of our culture. We need to be learning from our Elders.

But I had those opportunities going back during school holidays,” he said.

“Education has been a big influence. It really changed my life.

So I want to encourage other families to push students to get an education across the Northern Territory.”
