Education in the Territory

Teachers in the Territory provide high quality education to 33000 students across 151 government schools.

Students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. More than 70% of students are located in remote or very remote locations, and more than 40% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

The department's strategic plan Growing Success Together supports the vision for young Territorians to be confident and capable global citizens.

There is also a dedicated strategy to support Indigenous education in the Territory.

A Share in the Future – Indigenous Education Strategy 2015-24 implements the recommendations of A Share in the Future - Review of Indigenous Education in the Northern Territory (Wilson Review).

Teaching in the Northern Territory can be an excellent step in your teaching career whether you pursue a position in a remote context or fast track to a leadership or specialised role.
